Law, a writer and journalist for The Telegraph, made his guest appearance on the show Thursday morning. He fielded several questions about Chelsea’s transfer prospects in January, but his comment regarding their area of need came later.
The Englishman was speaking on the long list of Chelsea injuries on defence. Particularly, Reece James has endured a lengthy spell on the sidelines, as has co-captain and left-back Ben Chilwell.
With Marc Cucurella now also sidelined the squad is very limited in the number of experienced defenders who can play on either flank. This prompted the journalist to reveal that: “I wouldn’t be surprised if they signed someone who can play at fullback in January.”
Rumoured Fullback Pursuit
Back in August, Chelsea were linked to Bayer Leverkusen fullback Jeremie Frimpong. Spanish outlet Fichajes stated that the youngster was “an attractive candidate to fill the void left by James’ injuries.” Since then the Dutchman has gained international prominence under coach Xabi Alonso. If the Blues are to try and persuade the Manchester City youth product to join they will have to contest other European clubs.

In less than two weeks, we will know if Law’s musings are correct. Pochettino, who desires to return European football to Stamford Bridge next season, has some work to do. Chelsea can qualify for continental play by either winning the Carabao Cup or finishing in one of the top spots of the Premier League.
