Chelsea are going through a rebuilding process, which has seen a number of new players join the club, and one of those players who joined was Ecuadorian midfielder, Moises Caicedo. He moved to Stamford Bridge for £100m plus £15m in performance-related add-ons. The midfielder has endured a tough start to life in London since his summer arrival, but Mauricio Pochettino has now spoken out regarding the form of Caicedo.

As reported by Fabrizio Romano, Chelsea manager Pochettino has spoken out in support of Caicedo, who has been criticised since he arrived in West London, particularly by Jamie Carragher, who described his debut against West Ham as a “nightmare.”

The Argentine manager said regarding the criticism aimed at the Ecuadorian: “It’s easy to blame the money, different aspects. He’s a human being. It’s about time to fit and perform. That’s why we have no doubt that it’s only time”. Pochettino continued, clarifying the club had no doubts over the midfielder in the long term: “We had no pre-season. It is physical and mental, and there is the talent. We’re sure”.

What Qualities Caicedo Brings to Chelsea

Despite some inconsistencies in his form, Caicedo gained praise from Chelsea fans online after his performance against Luton earlier this season, with one describing his performance as “imperious.

The Ecuadorian midfielder is an athletic addition to the Chelsea midfield while being assured in possession and very progressive in his thinking, looking to keep the play ticking over with short, sharp passes.

Caicedo reads the game exceptionally well and loves to intercept – and break up opposition attacks. Despite his inconsistent start at Stamford Bridge, he has a number of undeniable qualities.
