It is of course true, that a league table after three rounds of play in any given season, anywhere in the world is on its face quite useless. But even so, Bayern Munich’s top-of-the-league clash with Bayer Leverkusen on Friday evening has the potential to be a fantastic match.
The Bavarians go into this encounter with three wins out of three and a plus seven goal difference, while their opponents also won all three of their first Bundesliga games, but by a plus eight combined margin. This of course means that Bayern Munich will enter into a high-stakes domestic league match (which this match undoubtedly is, regardless of the timing) only in second place. These two teams are the only ones left with a 100% record in the league after the first three rounds. As much as the German media have tried to hype up this game, they were certainly not wrong to do so.
Munich and Leverkusen have not only won all of their match-ups so far, but they have done so playing the most attractive football in the process. As strange as the comparisons between Harry Kane and new striker Victor Boniface or, the ones between coaches Thomas Tuchel and Xabi Alonso may be, there is no doubt that the away side may become a credible threat to the Bavarian’s title ambitions this season. It is up to them to win and send a signal to the league leaders and the rest of the league in the process. We break down the Bayern Munich predicted lineup here.
