The sacking of Hansi Flick as head coach of the German National Team occurred following their embarrassing loss to Japan in an international friendly. After an unimpressive World Cup in Qatar last year, Flick seemed to be on thin ice for the coming matches. According to Fabrizio Romano, Julian Nagelsmann could be approached to replace Flick.

Statement Comes from Bayern Munich Executive
According to Bayern Munich executive Uli Hoeneß, Bayern would release their former coach to the national team. Nagelsmann was dismissed during a string of good results, and his replacement, Thomas Tuchel, narrowly avoided an almost near disaster, causing the move to be criticised.

It was later revealed by Bayern and other sources that Nagelsmann was released due to the fact he did not “fit with the team’s culture.” The Bavarian outlet still hold him under contract, but according to Hoeneß, a “Deal would certainly not fall through because of FC Bayern.”
String of Poor Results Leads to Sacking
Under Flick, Germany exited out of the World Cup at the group stage and only won one match out of six UEFA Nations League fixtures. Notable results include losing to Hungary at home in the Nations League, a defeat that guaranteed they would not be moving on to the knockout rounds. After Qatar, losses to Colombia and Poland in friendly matches brought further woe to their fortunes.

Nagelsmann, previously described as a “great coach,” should he take the role, joins a German National Team in desperate need of a saviour. The next major competition, Euro 2024, will take place in Germany, and the hosts will need to perform well to avoid the wrath of their supporters. Nagelsmann seems a great option to help return this footballing powerhouse to its previous glory days.
