Former Manchester United Star Rumoured to Be Returning to England

‘Verbal Agreement’: Man Utd Reach Agreement to Sign International Player - Medical Now Taking Place - Sergio Reguilon

American football player Tom Brady’s purchase of an ownership stake in Championship side Birmingham City shows how his country is growing in their fandom for European football. The United States will host the World Cup in 2026, and following their round of 16 efforts last year they look set to perform well as the hosts.

Brady, though, who has been described as “the Greatest of All Time” thanks to his illustrious career in the NFL, had been pondering who he thinks should coach his English squad.

Wayne Rooney Linked to Birmingham City Job by New Partial-Owner Tom Brady

Daily Mail First Reports Rooney Links

Tom Collomosse of The Daily Mail was one of the first voices to report Brady’s interest in hiring Wayne Rooney. John Eustace is the current pitchside leader at the club, and with three wins and two draws in his five league fixtures, it looks unlikely that he will leave the Championship outfit anytime soon. A former star for United, the 37-year-old Rooney is currently the coach of Major League Soccer team D.C. United.

The former England captain has experience coaching in the Championship. He was in charge of a doomer Derby County campaign, following which he left for his position in the States. Eustace’s contract with Birmingham runs until 2025. A potential suitor for him, should they fire their current coach, would be Rangers in Scotland.

Second Report Confirms Rumours

Neil Moxley at The Mirror wrote an article a couple of hours after Collomosse’s that also links the respective coaches to their potential new clubs. His piece stated that Rooney was “keen” on returning to England. Eustace’s current position is concrete, but if he leaves St. Andrew’s for a Glasgow move to Rangers, the former United player tops the list of replacement candidates.

Birmingham is currently going through many transitions, even as the team battles for promotion to the Premier League. The club brought in 13 players this Summer while also trying to manage their ownership issues. Brady’s investment could signal a future majority stake, as supporters are not pleased with how the team’s current owners are handling the club.
