Will Greenwood Stay at Getafe Beyond Loan Spell?
Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that the Red Devils have only organized a straight loan move for the 21-year-old to the Spanish side and have not been able to insert an option or obligatory clause for them to buy him permanently at the end of the spell.

He also states that Greenwood is expected to formally return to Old Trafford in June 2024, after his loan spell with the La Liga club expires. This means that Getafe are not, for the time being, planning to have him for more than a year as they give him another chance to reignite his career.
The journalist further claims that “[I] understand” that the Red Devils have agreed to pay over 50% of his wages during the loan spell, with the Spanish side only covering a small amount of his salary. The 21-year-old is likely to make his debut for Getafe after the September international break.

The last time that Greenwood played a professional game was back in January 2022. Since that period, he has not been able to train with the Red Devils due to all the allegations against him and absolutely stayed away from competitive football as a whole.

He is now poised to return after a nearly 20-month layoff and restart his career at the top level of European football. The 21-year-old has been able to secure a move to one of Europe’s top-5 leagues and a club that is likely to give plenty of opportunities to prove his ability again. In their official message to confirm his loan move to the La Liga club, United have confirmed that they will “continue to offer its support to Mason and his family during this period of transition.”
