‘Deal on the Verge of Collapsing’: Serie A Club Set to Back Off From Loan Deal for ‘Brilliant’ Tottenham Player

Tottenham Hotspur are the Favourites to Sign Ansu Fati

Tottenham Hotspur had reached an agreement with Serie A side Genoa to send their midfielder, Tanguy Ndombele, on loan. However, as an agreement could not be reached on the player side, Genoa have chosen to withdraw from the deal as reported by Fabrizio Romano.

No Agreement on Personal Terms

The Italian side had been working on persuading the midfielder to join them, and while Spurs agreed to the loan and aimed to “find a solution” by Friday, the player has not yet reached a decision. Additionally, reports suggest that Genoa is not inclined to wait until the deadline day for the player to decide, thus they retain the option to withdraw from the deal.

The “brilliant” player was acquired by Spurs in 2019 for a fee of £53.8 million from Lyon. However, it has been reported that Ange Postecoglou is aiming to trim the squad, as mentioned by Nizaar Kinsella, with several players already departing, and Ndombele could potentially be one of them.

Competition for Playtime at North London

It is also unlikely that the French international would receive playing time under Postecoglou due to the intense competition within the club and the absence of European competitions this season. This lack of opportunities for squad rotation further diminishes his chances.

Even in the recent Carabao Cup match against Fulham, which ended in a penalty shootout loss, he was not included in the nine changes implemented by the manager.

As one of the highest-paid players in the squad and still having two years left on his contract, the club is aiming to permanently offload him in the near future, as they appear dissatisfied with his performance since his arrival.
