The Premier League club is believed to be willing to pay close to £20 million for the Netherlands international. This could well turn out to be a bargain fee if the player manages to fulfil the potential that he displayed in his time at the Dutch capital. A change of scenery might help his cause.
Who Is Gravenberch and What Will He Bring to Liverpool?
The Dutch talent is a product of the highly esteemed Ajax youth academy. At 6’2″ he is physically robust in his playing style. The “exceptional talent” usually plays in a midfield double pivot as a box-to-box midfielder. Despite his big frame, the 21-year-old has extremely quick feet and is very agile in his movements. He is very good at progressing the ball up the pitch. The young midfielder tends to receive the ball in deep areas before using his long strides or passing range to move the ball upfield.
Watch: Why Liverpool and Chelsea are destroying the transfer market
The Reds midfield currently lacks a physical presence. The likes of Thiago, Dominik Szoboszlai and Curtis Jones are all technical players not known for their physical prowess. New signing Alexis Mac Allister and Gravenberch can make a formidable double-pivot duo since both these players are equally adept at progressing the play and breaking up opposition attacks. The former Eredivisie star can provide the perfect balance of physicality and technical ability to Jurgen Klopp’s midfield.
