According to Romano, West Ham have reached an agreement with the Bundesliga club, with a guaranteed £17 million to be paid for the Greek defender with a potential £4.2 million in add-ons.

Failed Harry Maguire Pursuit 

One of head coach David Moyes’ preferred solutions to improve his defence was Harry Maguire. The race for the Manchester United defender seems to involve several teams, but West Ham always seemed to be the favourites to draw him away from Old Trafford.

A move for the English centre-back fell apart for West Ham, leaving the London club to look elsewhere in the transfer market, with Mavropanos seemingly fitting the bill.

The Greek international defender featured in Greece’s World Cup qualifying matches. His time spent with the national team, as well as his time in the Bundesliga, has given him the experience he never gained sitting on the bench for Arsenal.

Mavropanos is also a capable playmaker and a danger on set pieces, where he imposes himself effectively. In the 2021/22 campaign, he scored five goals in 33 domestic matches.

Deal Close

The Greek defender is seemingly on his way to returning to the Premier League. The agreement has been reached on the fee, which will see Arsenal, a former club of the defender, get 10% of the money.

The return to Europe with the loss of Declan Rice has increased the importance of the London club strengthening this summer, as they will look to repeat their trophy winning gory from last season.
