Liverpool fans have received a stunning update from The Telegraph’s Matt Law on the club’s aims to sign a new midfielder ahead of the start of the Premier League campaign. The news the club have bid for Brighton’s Moises Caicedo comes right after it was reported that Chelsea had outbid them in a move to sign Southampton midfielder Romeo Lavia.

Law claims that Liverpool have outbid Chelsea’s latest reported offer of £80 million for Caicedo, knowing full well that the Blues are locked in negotiations for the Ecuadorian international.

He also added that this is what led to the London club recently outbidding the Reds for the transfer of Romeo Lavia, whilst also suggesting that the 21-year-old would still prefer a move to Stamford Bridge despite the shocking twist in his transfer saga.
Meanwhile, Fabrizio Romano states that Brighton made it clear that they’ll sell the Ecuador star to the highest bidder, with the “next 24 hours crucial”. He also adds that the Reds are now planning to make a formal bid for the Brighton man soon.
Liverpool could be trying to salvage themselves after enduring a major transfer failure in chasing Southampton’s Lavia after reportedly having multiple bids rejected. They have a solid relationship with the Seagulls, having signed Alexis Mac Allister from the club earlier in the summer.
Interestingly, it is being reported that Caicedo has put his house in Brighton up for rent in anticipation of an imminent transfer.
Liverpool Aiming to Strengthen Midfield After Major Overhaul
Jurgen Klopp’s side have had a midfield revolution in their squad this summer, offloading a number of midfielders from the previous campaign. The likes of James Milner and Naby Keita were allowed to run down their contracts and leave for free, whilst Jordan Henderson and Fabinho were allowed to leave for the Saudi Pro League.

Liverpool have already signed Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai, in order to bolster their attacking midfield options, but they are in need of a new defensive midfielder after selling Fabinho, and now seem to be scrambling for one.
Caicedo, who has been hailed as a “physical monster” for his impressive work in England, could be the perfect replacement. But it remains to be seen if they can tempt the 21-year-old into joining them and win this battle against Chelsea.
