Bid Submitted: Brentford Moving Forwards in Push to Sign 56 Goal Man

‘Huge Salary’: Brentford Pushing to Sign ‘Special’ Forward After Record £36.7 Million New Bid Launched - Romano - Nico Gonzalez

Brentford finished an impressive ninth in the Premier League this past season. By the end of the campaign, they were only two points away from besting Aston Villa for seventh in the final table, which is the last spot in the English top flight that gets to play European football.

To ensure that they will again be competing for a top-seven spot in the league, The Bees are looking for an attacker who can score the goals they need to get there. Fabrizio Romano reported that the attacker they need is currently playing in the Italian Serie A.

Brentford Eyeing Winger/Forward Nicolas Gonzalez to Bring European Football

Bid Submitted by Brentford

Romano revealed that the player of interest for Brentford is Nicolas (Nico) Gonzalez of Fiorentina. The Argentine forward and left winger had an impressive campaign for the club as they reached the Europa Conference League final, ultimately losing to West Ham.

The Bees’ bid for Gonzalez reportedly totalled almost £26 million. Labelled as Brentfords “priority target,” it appears that discussions between the two clubs are currently ongoing. Fiorentina have already sold forward and former FC Basel player Arthur Cabral to Portuguese club Benfica in this window, so they may not be eager to see another star leave.

Why Gonzalez?

Gonzalez is a player worthy of the hefty bid the English side are willing to pay out. A Copa America winner with Argentina, the 25-year-old nearly made the roster for Argentina’s World Cup-winning campaign last year. He scored three goals in World Cup qualifying en route to getting La Albiceleste to the finals.

Gonzalez contributed six goals in only 24 Serie A appearances with the Italian team last year. While that might not be a record-breaking number, one goal every four matches is impressive in one of Europe’s top-five leagues, and Brentford would be happy to get the talented player if they can. The forward’s career total of 56 goals in 207 games is a mark of consistency with the average of one in four becoming a trend.
