Chelsea’s academy has been somewhat fruitful in recent years with names like Ruben Loftus-Cheek, Reece James, Mason Mount (who Fabrizio Romano reports is headed to Manchester United), and Lewis Hall all coming through that system.
Being an academy graduate sadly doesn’t guarantee a career-long stay in blue as the club have announced the departure of one of their most high-profile graduates since John Terry.

The Italian Job
The Englishman has made the move from Stamford Bridge to Italy. He will now join up with former Blues teammate Fikayo Tomori and don the jersey of AC Milan. The Italian side won the Serie A in 2021/22 but let the title split away as Napoli won the competition this past season.

Despite their failure to retain the league title, the Rossoneri did manage to reach the semi-finals of the Champions League in this past campaign. They are hoping to build on their strong performances of the past two years and have made a key addition in the experienced Loftus-Cheek.
Always a Blue
The 27-year-old came through the youth system for Chelsea after initially joining all the way back in 2004. His time at Stamford Bridge with the senior team was somewhat mixed as he spent some years on the fringe of the squad, while in others he notched a total of 40 appearances.
Despite that, the England international will be remembered as one of the few graduates in recent vintage to make his way into the first team. His time in London comes to an end with a host of trophies to his name including the Premier League and Europa League. The book closes on his time in Blue with 155 appearances to his name and 13 goals for the team.
A Different Switch to Red
While one academy graduate is off to Italy, another is set to switch to a Premier League rival as Romano has given Mount to the Red Devils his trademark Here We Go. Like the new AC Milan man, the 24-year-old made his way through the youth system at the West London club before making a breakthrough to the first team.
Despite a number of trophies and a solid number of starts under his belt, the Englishman is set to make a switch to Manchester as he has just one year left on his current deal.
