What’s Happening in the Mason Greenwood Situation

The Englishman has been spotted training for the first time since United suspended him at the start of 2022.

Greenwood was recently named on United’s retained list, leading some fans to hope this would be a signal of his return and others to dread the same thing.

This comes after his arrest in January 2022 when his then-ex-girlfriend made allegations of physical and sexual abuse against him.

The 21-year-old was due to appear in court to begin his trial earlier this year, but all charges were dropped.

This then raised the issue of what should happen to him in the world of football, with fans having seen the evidence posted on social media and many concluding that he should not be allowed to play the beautiful game again.

The issue will likely continue to divide United fans over the next couple of months, with the club yet to reveal the results of their internal investigation into the matter. At the same time as this, the Red Devils are in desperate need of a new striker, and some fans believe that instead of spending tens of millions of pounds on a new centre-forward, they should instead look to get Greenwood back to match fitness.

It remains to be seen what will come of the Mason Greenwood situation, but his return to training is a big step if he is to play professional football again, be it at United or elsewhere.
