The Red Devils have been conducting contract negotiations with numerous players, and are said to be close to reaching an agreement with goalkeeper David de Gea.

Romano also notes that the deal will be valid until June of 2028 and that Erik ten Hag was a key proponent of the new contract, seeing Dalot as a vital part of his project.

A Positive Season for Diogo Dalot – But He Has Competition

Dalot has had a great season under new manager Erik ten Hag.

The Dutch boss clearly appreciates the attacking output that his fullbacks provide, favouring Dalot over his competitor Aaron Wan-Bissaka at the start of the campaign.

This has recently become a more close-fought battle, however, with the English right-back earning his way back into the starting lineup.

This healthy competition will only drive the pair further on, as has happened with Luke Shaw numerous times throughout his career, including when Brandon Williams broke into the first team and, more recently, when Tyrell Malacia was signed.

This new deal, though, is a clear demonstration of Ten Hag’s faith in Dalot.
