After signing a contract renewal with Brighton & Hove Albion that lasts until June of 2028, the Manchester United–linked Evan Ferguson will likely stay at the club for at least one more year according to Samuel Luckhurst of the Manchester Evening News. Although United are prioritizing the signing of a central striker, they will have to wait until the end of the 2023/24 season if they wish to secure the talents of the young Irishman.

The 6’2” striker had a trial with the Red Devils back in 2014 but was not signed by the club: a decision that academy director Nick Cox said was a “£50 million-plus mistake”.
With Anthony Martial underperforming and Wout Weghorst’s loan expiring at the end of the season, it will pain Erik ten Hag’s team and the fans that the 18-year-old will continue to develop away from the 13-time Premier League winners.

Key Contributor to Brighton’s Success
The forward heavily contributed to helping the South Coast side achieve European qualification for the first time in their history this campaign. Alongside teammates Julio Enciso and Facundo Buonanotte, the young trio combined to score more than half of the 19 goals scored by teenagers in the top flight this season.
The goal contributions made by the attacker have resulted in praise from manager Roberto De Zerbi. In an interview, the Italian noted that he has the potential to become one of the best strikers in the Premier League. If Ferguson is rewarded with more minutes next season, his goal tally, along with his transfer value, will surely rise.

Although the youngster has the potential to become a world-class player, he still has to develop a significant amount to match the abilities of rumoured targets Harry Kane and Victor Osimhen.
However, this introduces a question for the Reds’ higher-ups: Should they buy a big-name striker who has already demonstrated high attacking prowess? Or should they acquire an up-and-coming star for less money and trust he can develop into a reliable goal-scorer?
