Antonio Conte is deeply unhappy about his current situation at Tottenham Hotspur, confirms Fabrizio Romano. This comes after the Italian manager’s incredible rant at his players, where he slammed their desire to play for the club and pointed Spurs’ inability to win anything major in the last 20 years after the 3-3 draw against Southampton.

What Led to Conte’s Outburst at Tottenham Players
In the rant at his players, Conte questioned their desire and claimed they all play for themselves rather than for the badge. Romano adds that the manager does not have any major issues with the ownership, but his unhappiness is mostly with the players and their inability to thrive under him – even after signing reinforcements like Arnaut Danjuma and Pedro Porro in the summer.

He wrote for his CaughtOffside column: “It’s up to Tottenham, but for sure the feeling around sources is for Conte not to be Spurs coach next season – it was already like this after AC Milan UCL clash. I’m not sure there are issues with the ownership, he’s not happy with the players and their attitude more than the ownership. He wants to see different attitude, this is why he’s really unhappy with the current situation.”

Romano has also stated that the general feeling is that Conte will not stay on as manager of the Lilywhites once his contract expires at the end of the season. He is likely to go back to Italy, mostly due to personal reasons. When it comes to potential replacements, it’s also added that club have not yet started the process of hiring a new manager.

Romano adds that former boss Mauricio Pochettino wants to return to coaching, as does ex-Spain manager Luis Enrique. However, he tips them to go for their best solution – which would be someone like Pochettino or a modern and young coach like Sporting Lisbon manager Ruben Amorim – who recently eliminated Arsenal from the Europa League. Conte, who has been hailed as a ‘tactical genius’ in the past, looks set to remain on as Tottenham’s manager for the time being and will be aiming to at least motivate them to ensure a top-4 finish in the Premier League.
