Chelsea are interested in signing Newcastle United midfielder Bruno Guimaraes in the summer transfer window, as per The Telegraph’s Luke Edwards. The Brazilian star has been impressive in the Premier League since being signed by the Magpies last year.
Chelsea Weighing Up Potential Summer Bid for Bruno Guimaraes
Chelsea Tracking Guimaraes Development
The Blues had an amazing January transfer window in which they made eight signings, including breaking the British transfer record to sign Enzo Fernandez from Benfica. They are also reported to be close to agreeing a new long-term deal for N’Golo Kante to stay for a longer period too. However, it doesn’t appear that they’re done with adding more midfielders to the squad.
Edwards also adds that Chelsea had inquired about the availability of Guimaraes in the January transfer window. Newcastle, however, did not really entertain the prospect of selling their star midfielder to a Premier League rival and the conversation over a deal was over as soon as it began.

However, it is further claimed that the London side might not be done in their pursuit of signing the Brazilian midfielder. In fact, they’re likely to be back for him in the summer and could solidify their interest by launching an ambitious bid to sign him from the Magpies. Newcastle were reportedly interested in signing a few Chelsea players in January, including Conor Gallagher, so it’s added that the Blues might think about adding some players to the mix.
Newcastle Unlikely to Entertain Guimaraes Sale
Despite Graham Potter’s team being eager on bolstering their squad with an energetic and impactful midfielder like the Brazilian star, his current club are unlikely to be eager in letting him go. The report indicates that the Magpies are ‘calmly dismissing’ any talks of the 25-year-old leaving and do not expect him to push for a summer move.

It’s added that it’s likely that the midfielder signs a new long-term contract that keeps him at Tyneside for many years to come. Guimaraes – who was called a ‘top class’ player by ex-Newcastle forward Shola Ameobi earlier this year – has made 26 appearances for his side this season, scoring four goals and providing three assists. He has fuelled their Premier League top-4 charge and proven himself an excellent signing for the Magpies – who are unlikely to sell him to any Premier League rival anytime soon.
