£165K per Week Midfielder ‘Wants to Leave’ Current Club and Join Manchester United

Marcel Sabitzer

Fabrizio Romano has revealed that Manchester United are interested in signing Marcel Sabitzer from Bayern Munich and that the Austrian midfielder wants to leave the club. The deadline day approach comes after United announced midfielder Christian Eriksen would be out until May.

Sabitzer signed for Bayern in 2021, with club CEO Oliver Khan praising him as a midfielder who “offers everything that an FC Bayern player needs.”

Sabitzer Wants To Leave

Sabitzer has featured regularly for Bayern Munich this season, making 24 appearances across all competitions for the Bundesliga champions. However, he has failed to start in the last seven Bundesliga games he was in the squad for.

Romano reports that Sabitzer who reportedly earns 165k per week, now “wants to leave” the German giants amid interest from Manchester United. Discussions are reportedly ongoing with The Red Devils “pushing in talks”, with Jonathan Shrager reporting that Erik ten Hag has spoken to the Austrian midfielder, with the Old Trafford manager keen on the player.

United Short In Midfield After Christian Eriksen Injury

United’s attempts to sign Sabitzer come as the club confirmed that midfielder Eriksen is out injured until early May. The Dane suffered an ankle injury in United’s FA Cup victory against Reading on Saturday.

The club said in an official statement: “While investigations are continuing, initial assessments indicate that Eriksen is likely to be out until late April or early May. However, there is hope that Christian can return in time to play a role in the final stages of the campaign.”

United Need A Creator

Eriksen has been an important presence in United’s team this season with 11 goal contributions in 31 appearances. Manager Ten Hag now only has Casemiro, Fred, and Scott McTominay to choose from in central midfield, with Donny Van De Beek also out injured.

United are therefore looking for a player who can create opportunities as frequently as Eriksen to act as a short-term solution. And Sabitzer could definitely be that player, showing impressive form for RB Leipzig scoring 52 goals and providing 42 assists in 229 appearances, in all competitions. These impressive stats earned him the move to Bayern Munich.

Could Chelsea Hijack Marcel Sabitzer’s Move?

While United are currently pushing to sign Sabitzer, Sky In Germany and Florian Plettenberg have reported that Chelsea have also enquired about signing Sabitzer.

The blues are currently engaged in negotiations to sign Enzo Fernandez from Benfica, but reports suggest that the two parties have not yet reached an agreement.

However, Romano has reported that Chelsea are currently “focused on different players now” and not negotiating to sign Sabitzer.
