Manchester United midfielder Christian Eriksen has been ruled out of action until late April or early May due to an ankle injury he suffered against Reading at the weekend, the club have confirmed. The Danish midfielder picked up the injury after a nasty tackle from Andy Carroll and is now out for a long time.

Eriksen Set to Be Out of Action for Months
In an official statement on the midfielder’s situation, United said in an official statement: “While investigations are continuing, initial assessments indicate that Eriksen is likely to be out until late April or early May. However, there is hope that Christian can return in time to play a role in the final stages of the campaign.”

This confirms that the Danish midfielder will miss almost the rest of the season for his side and be out for the majority of important games going forward. With Donny van de Beek also ruled out for the rest of the season because of an injury suffered earlier this month, Erik ten Hag has been left very short of quality midfield options.
United Left Short-Handed in Midfield After Eriksen Blow
Eriksen played an important part in United’s success under Erik ten Hag so far this season after arriving at the club as a free agent in the summer. The Danish midfielder had 11 goal contributions in 31 appearances for the Manchester side this season, including nine assists – the most for any player in the squad this season. The 31-year-old, who earns around £150,000-a-week wages at Old Trafford, was also praised as a ‘smart and clever’ player by ex-United midfielder Michael Carrick earlier this season.

That is why the Red Devils will be gutted to see him knocked out for such a long time – considering he was an important creative beacon to the side. While it has been reported that United might seek a loan signing of a midfielder in January if Eriksen’s injury is deemed serious, they don’t have much time for that. For now, Ten Hag is left with Casemiro, Fred and Scott McTominay as the three senior midfielders available and will need to manage his options well going forward.
