Manchester United striker Charlie McNeill has agreed to join League Two outfit Newport County on loan for the remainder of the season, reports Manchester Evening News’ Rich Fay.
The 19-year-old made his first-team debut for United earlier this season when Erik ten Hag brought him off the bench v Real Sociedad.

McNeill was described as a ‘great lad’ by Robbie Savage during that game, as quoted by Manchester Evening News. Savage, of course, has son Charlie Savage, also 19, within the same youth team at Old Trafford.
Savage himself joined Forest Green Rovers last week on loan.

At 19, it’s time for McNeill to go out and play some regular first-team football. Having made just one appearance at United, despite the striker shortage, he was not going to get the valuable minutes at the Theatre of Dreams anytime soon.
The report states that McNeill has even chosen Newport over teams across the English Football League pyramid due to assurances over his role in the team.
Newport aren’t having the best of seasons, sitting 19th in League Two – just five points clear of the bottom two. Looking at the teams around them, they are short on goals scored and will hope that with the valuable experience they can offer McNeill, he brings goals as a reward.
McNeill is no stranger to finding the back of the net in the academy for United, and previously at Manchester City’s academy too. He’s scored three goals in three starts against Football League sides in the EFL Trophy this season, hinting that he may be a coup signing at the level.
Newport’s current top goalscorer is Omar Bogle, he has seven goals in 30 games. No one else at the club has managed more than three goals this season.

McNeill is said to have already trained with his new teammates ahead of the announcement. The striker spent time training with Sheffield Wednesday as part of a work experience loan last season and that may see him better prepared for this loan.
