Gareth Southgate at a press conference

England vs Iran – Predictions and Best Odds

England Current Run of Form

England are in horrendous form. The last five matches have seen only three draws and not a single win, with a 4-0 loss to Hungary as one of the darkest moments the Three Lions have faced at home. Gareth Southgate will look to bring back the form that England were in throughout Euro 2020 if the side are to have any chance of going deep into the tournament.

Iran Current Run of Form

Iran have won three of their last five, losing only to Algeria in this time. This strong run of form was more than enough to get them into the World Cup, with Iran’s highly passive style of play meaning that players like Mehdi Taremi are hitting their opponents hard on the counter. Carlos Queiroz will need some high-quality defensive work to keep the English attackers out.

Recent Head to Head

In a rare turn of events in the usually packed international schedule, this is the first time Iran and England have ever come head to head on a football pitch.

England vs Iran Prediction

Whilst the Three Lions are on a poor run of form and have a few injuries affecting the England squad, Iran are a team that crumble under too much pressure. Matches against South Korea and Algeria showed Iran’s issues when teams apply pressure, and Gareth Southgate will look to hold a lot of the ball and challenge the Iranian backline. In theory, this is a clear England victory, but that all comes down to the form the English are in.

Current Odds: England vs Iran

England are firm favourites for the match at 1/3, followed by the draw at 4/1 and an Iran win at 12/1.
