Inter Vice President Javier Zanetti Gives Update on Skriniar’s Contract

Fabrizio Romano has confirmed the Manchester side’s links with a move for the 27-year-old centre-back, who has been one of Serie A’s most promising defenders over the last few years. But Zanetti appears to have put out the exit links for the centre-back by confirming his stance on signing a new deal with them as his current one expires next year.

Zanetti said: “We are in talks to extend his contract as conversations are progressing well. We hope to get it done and signed soon.” Well, this is definitely a blow to the Red Devils and their hopes of signing the centre-back anytime soon.

Paris Saint-Germain were also keen on signing the Slovakia international in the summer transfer window to bolster their own backline but refused to pay the kind of money which the Serie A side wanted to let him go.

Skriniar’s Career So Far Recapped

The Slovakian defender started to get recognition after he moved to the Serie A in 2014 when Sampdoria signed him from MSK Zilina. He played two seasons for the club before being signed by Inter for a fee of around €20 million, plus striker Gianluca Caprari in a swap deal.

Skriniar has since gone on to become a mainstay for the Nerazzurri, making 234 appearances for them. He’s also won the Serie A title as well as the Coppa Italia with the side and was named the Slovak Footballer of the Year three consecutive times from 2019 to 2021.

Dubbed an ‘incredible defender’ by his former teammate Adam Zilak, the 27-year-old seems intent on staying with Inter rather than joining a club like United or PSG.
