Chelsea are in constant contact with the agents of Jorginho over a new contract, confirms Fabrizio Romano. The Italian midfielder’s contract with the Premier League side is set to expire in June 2023, after which he’ll become a free agent unless an extension is agreed.

Jorginho’s Stance Revealed Amid Contract Talks
The 30-year-old midfielder has been at Stamford Bridge since 2018 when he joined them from Napoli. Romano adds that the Italian star loves his life at Chelsea and also living in London. However, a new contract will all depend on the financial situation – with the Blues wanting to give him a new deal with much-reduced wages from what he currently earns.
Jorginho has reportedly asked for a pay increase, which makes agreeing him agreeing to a pay-cut unlikely at this stage. Chelsea will also be aware that he is attracting interest from La Liga giants Barcelona, who reportedly want to sign him on a free transfer next year.

The 31-year-old holds the advantage of having prominent clubs ready to sign him on a free transfer after his contract with Chelsea expires, as he also has the incentive of getting a lucrative signing-on bonus and decent wages at a club like Barcelona as well.
Chelsea Risk Losing Jorginho and N’Golo Kante Next Summer
Jorginho is not the only player whom Graham Potter’s side might lose on a free next year. N’Golo Kante’s contract is also set to expire in the summer of 2023, and it remains to be seen if the Blues keep both players beyond this season or not.

Romano feels that it would be smart for Chelsea to extend the contract of at least one of the two midfielders, as they have quality and experience. He also adds that Kante’s exit on a free transfer next year is a possibility as he recovers from surgery on his troublesome hamstring. That is why Chelsea could look to extend Jorginho’s contract or risk being short of experience in midfield next season. The Italian midfielder described as having a “golden touch” was influential in helping Chelsea win the Champions League in 2021.
