Man of the Match
The Whites’ Man of the Match against the Gunners was voted as Brenden Aaronson. He secured his 7.83 rating by leading the Leeds United press, pushing the Arsenal defenders back time and time again to stop them from getting out of their own half. His performance got better with the introduction of Patrick Bamford, with the two attacking the Gunners through the middle of the pitch, working closely together to create chances. Jesse Marsch’s side were unlucky not to score, and Aaronson was a key part of creating those chances.
Bamford’s Performance
Patrick Bamford’s performance was somewhat divisive. When he came onto the pitch there was absolutely no doubt that he changed the game, adding clear quality to the Leeds attacking and pressing in a way that Rodrigo simply can’t. He also found himself on the end of chances, putting himself in some of the more dangerous areas of the pitch and having the opportunity to draw the Yorkshire side level. He should have played a key part in Arsenal falling to ten men, but VAR disagreed.
However, not being able to finish those chances was Bamford’s bane. The striker likely lost a lot of his rating by both missing a penalty and failing to convert several of his chances. This could be thanks to almost a full year of injury recovery, so fans can only hope that he bounces back in the coming weeks.
