Reading have had a surprisingly good start to this Championship season. They may have just suffered a midweek defeat at the hands of Sheffield United, but they’re still heading in the right direction under Paul Ince. The club are looking to bring in even more talent to the squad in the form of an ex-Sheffield Wednesday player. Alex Miller is reporting that “Massimo Luongo is set to finally secure his next club”.
Former Sheffield Wednesday Man on the Move
Reports in the national media suggest former Owl favourite Massimo Luongo is set to finally secure his next club.
It would see him reunited with another former Wednesday man👇https://t.co/PfFJcg52af#SWFC🦉

A Strong Start to the Season For Reading
At the time of writing, Reading are currently sitting fifth in the second tier of English football. The four above them are all big hitters at this level, each one vying for automatic promotion back to the promised land of the Premier League. It seems unlikely that they’ll stay put in the upper echelons of the table but positivity is returning to the club, including with these links to Australian international and former Owl Luongo.
One big loss on a personnel front for the Royals was John Swift. The midfield stalwart was snapped up by Steve Bruce and West Bromwich Albion following a number of good years in the blue and white hoops of Reading. Former Sheffield Wednesday man Luongo occupies a similar area of the field and is an excellent replacement.
There was a lot of change for Reading over the summer and a number of midfielders have departed. Alongside Swift, Andy Rinomhota and Josh Laurent remained in the Championship, joining Cardiff City and Stoke City respectively.

About the Former Sheffield Wednesday Man
Luongo has been around for a while now in the English landscape, and yet is still just 29. At this age, he brings experience to the table as an asset that drives his side up the pitch. The former Sheffield Wednesday man began his career with Tottenham Hotspur but was unable to breakthrough in North London, even after several loan spells.
Since then, he has gone on to play for Swindon Town and Queens Park Rangers before arriving at Hillsborough. The Australian then left Wednesday at the end of the 2021/22 season upon the expiration of his contract. This is a great opportunity for Luongo to continue playing at this level and stamp his authority on the league.
He hasn't played for the Socceroos since 2019, but Massimo Luongo is set to sign for Championship leaders Reading 😍 Could we see him play for Australia in Qatar…or in the Premier League next year?
