The Interested Parties

Whilst Birmingham City are leading the race to sign Mejbri, Middlesborough and West Bromwich Albion are also trying to secure his signature, according to Whitwell. So far in The Championship The Blues have started better than the two other clubs as they are still yet to record a win in three games. Nevertheless, it is still very early in the season and all three teams’ fortunes could very easily change, however, at this moment Birmingham City’s current form could prove to be a factor in them acquiring Mejbri.

In addition to this, Birmingham City’s recruitment of younger players so far this window would see Mejbri fit the profile. They have bought in Przemyslaw Placheta (24) from Norwich, Dion Sanderson (22) from Wolverhampton Wanderers, and Auston Trusty (23) from Arsenal all on loan. It would appear new manager John Eustace has a clear plan for his squad this season and Mejbri would fit that.

What Does Youngster Hannibal Mejbri Offer?

In dark times for Manchester United, the youth academy always provides a spark of hope, and Hannibal Mejbri is no different. Joining from Monaco in 2020, the 19-year-old attacking midfielder has gone from strength to strength excelling in the U18s and U21s, and in the 2020/21 season, he made his first team debut in a 2-1 win away at Wolves on the final day of the season.

In the 2021/22 season, he only made two appearances for the first team and the most noticeable of those was in a 4-0 loss to Liverpool. Mejbri came on and played for 6 minutes; during that time he committed fouls, scrapped with Liverpool players, and received a yellow card. As a result of his cameo, he received high praise from Gary Neville who believed him to be the only Manchester United player to show “Fight” and “Spirit”. Whichever club gets Mejbri this season will be receiving a player who gives everything.

Where Will Hannibal Play This Season?

With all the interest in Mejbri and his failure to appear on at least the bench in Manchester United’s first two league games, it would appear he will be playing his football somewhere else this season. It is just a matter of who offers the best situation for the player and parent club.
