The potential for a Manchester United Cody Gakpo move is growing, as the club continues its search for an attacking player in this transfer window. Rob Dawson reports that the Red Devils have registered their interest in the Dutchman, with his current club PSV Eindhoven setting a clear valuation.

What Will The Deal Cost?
With the Dutch club’s history of selling promising young forwards for a profit (following Donyell Malen’s move to Dortmund in 2021), PSV are not necessarily obstructing the potential agreement with the Manchester side.
However, they are prepared to wait until they know whether they qualify for this season’s Champions League. The club has set the forward’s value at approximately £35 million. As the Dutch side has a contract with Gakpo that goes until the end of 2026, they are in no hurry to let the player go for any less than he is worth.

This is in combination with the fact that PSV understand the situation Manchester United are in. Enquiring about players such as Marko Arnautovic shows that the side is willing to go a long way for a forward. Last season’s Eredivisie runners-up can use this to get even more out of Ten Hag’s side following a lacklustre start to the season against Brighton.

What Does Cody Gakpo Bring?
Cody Gakpo is one of the biggest up-and-coming talents in European football and has an interest in joining Erik ten Hag’s side after Manchester United fought off interest from Arsenal and Leeds United.
With two goals in the Eredivisie opener against FC Emmen and over 20 goal contributions last season, the Dutch forward is one of the more versatile prospects available. He has minutes on both flanks, as a number 10 and leading the line for Eindhoven, making him a strong addition to any side.
His most prominent matches and minutes come on the left-hand side of the attack. At over six feet tall, the forward is physically imposing and adds something from set pieces that other smaller finishers miss out on. For a team looking for a cutting edge, this Dutch youngster is the perfect candidate.
Will He Work At Old Trafford?
Whilst Cody Gakpo is an excellent technical player with all of the traits the Old Trafford side could ever need, his signing risks harming the balance of the club. He perfectly fits the mould of one of Manchester United’s main players, Marcus Rashford, and bringing in an inside forward that plays on the left also risks the morale of Anthony Martial, who had an excellent pre-season.
