AC Milan Are Still Working on Major Midfield Move

AC Milan Are

AC Milan are still working to bring in Renato Sanches from Lille, according to Gianluca Di Marzio. All signs point to Sanches leaving Lille this summer, and the Rossoneri are currently battling Paris Saint-Germain for the player’s signature. Di Marzio reports that Milan have recently been in contact with Jorge Mendes, the player’s agent, but Sanches is still intrigued by a potential PSG offer.

A Top Midfielder

Milan’s crop of midfielders is still solid. Sandro Tonali and Ismael Bennacer are the most prominent names. Tonali broke out last season while Bennacer has always been consistent. The bench includes Yacine Adli, Tommaso Pobega, and Tiémoué Bakayoko. Adli shined for Bordeaux last season, Pobega was solid at Torino, but Bakayoko rarely played for Milan. That’s five names and decent depth, however.

With that being said, Franck Kessie left Milan for FC Barcelona. That leaves a significant void. Kessie was a regular starter and quite versatile. Although typically lining up in the midfield double-pivot, Kessie also played in the attacking midfield. Milan have yet to bring in a replacement for him.

Of course, that possible replacement is Sanches. He has shined for Lille, especially over the past two years. He’s also still just 24 years old after originally breaking out as a youngster. Sanches can easily slot in as a starter for Milan. Milan also have somewhat of a connection with Lille, as two of the club’s best players in Rafael Leao and Mike Maignan arrived from the French club. It won’t be easy to beat out PSG for the player’s signature, but Milan are still working on a positive outcome.
