James Maddison

Arsenal’s Pursuit of Leicester City Star Could Ruin Newcastle United’s Hopes of Landing ‘Top Priority’ Midfielder

According to John Percy from the Daily Telegraph, Leicester City’s 25-year-old midfielder James Maddison has been identified by Newcastle United manager Eddie Howe as a “top priority.” The Foxes have rejected the Magpies’ opening bid of £40 million, with the Midlands club determined to keep hold of their star player for the coming season.

James Maddison: Newcastle’s Pursuit of Top Priority Hinges on Arsenal’s Pursuit of Youri Tielemans

Leicester on the Verge of Losing Two Key Players

It’s been a tough summer for Brendan Rodgers as his team are the only club in the Premier League who have yet to make a signing for the senior team so far this summer. As alluded to by Fabrizio Romano in his latest video, Leicester are determined not to lose both Maddison and Tielemans in the same transfer window, as Arsenal have reportedly agreed personal terms with the Belgian international.

With Newcastle keen to continue their great form from the end of last season, Howe has identified Maddison as a “top priority.” Despite the St. James’ Park club being keen on the Foxes star, their pursuit of the attacking midfielder seemingly depends on Arsenal’s pursuit of his teammate Tielemans, with the North London club reportedly focussed on signing the Belgian midfielder.

Maddison has proven a superb buy since joining the Foxes from Norwich City in 2018 for £25 million. He has improved immensely under the guidance of manager Rodgers, scoring 18 goals in all competitions last season. His great form for the King Power Stadium club has also seen him earn one England cap.

Public Investment Fund of Saudi Arabia (PIF) are determined to back manager Howe with them already financing the signings of Nick Pope, Sven Botman and Matt Target, with England International Maddison next on the managers’ wish list.
