Ongoing Negotiations Amidst Interest From Other Clubs

Giovani Lo Celso has a history of being loaned out to clubs and subsequently being permanently signed by them. Real Betis did it in 2019, as did Tottenham Hotspur two years later. Now it appears to be Villareal’s turn, where the Argentine has spent his spring on loan. However, Spurs are insisting on their transfer conditions, reportedly demanding around £17 million for the midfielder.

Additionally, the midfielder is a hot prospect, with multiple Italian clubs reportedly being interested. Nevertheless, the 26-year-old is on top of Unai Emery’s and Villareal’s list.

Journeyman and Copa America Champion

Lo Celso is a product of Rosario Central, the club where he made his senior debut in 2015. After a season, he was purchased by Paris Saint-Germain, who subsequently loaned the midfielder back to his youth club in Argentina. This was followed by a season with PSG that saw him make 33 appearances.

Next, the Argentine was loaned out to Real Betis, who liked the midfielder so much that they signed him in 2019. Lo Celso’s Tottenham Hotspur spell follows an almost identical pattern, and now it’s looking like the same thing will happen with Villareal.

Parallel to his club career, Lo Celso has also had a very successful career with Argentina’s national team, finishing third at the 2019 Copa America and of course winning the entire 2021 edition. If that wasn’t enough, he also won the 2022 CONMEBOL-UEFA Cup of Champions against Italy at Wembley.
