Tottenham Hotspur are set to have more talks with Middlesbrough over the possibility of signing defender Djed Spence this summer, according to Lyall Thomas. Tottenham Hotspur Set for More Talks Over Djed Spence Signing
Spurs Chairman Daniel Levy Personally Overseeing Djed Spence Transfer
Djed Spence is highly rated by those at Tottenham Hotspur after playing a key role on loan with Nottingham Forest in their impressive campaign last season. He helped them gain promotion to the Premier League after a two-decade-long wait. Spurs did have initial talks with the Championship side over the defender, but could not come to any agreement.
Their chairman, Daniel Levy, has now personally intervened to spearhead the negotiations over this deal. Levy hasn’t normally been involved in too many transfers since the appointment of Managing Director Fabio Paratici. However, with the Italian executive focused on securing other transfer targets, Levy is looking to handle this move by himself.
Levy now has to find an agreement over the fee for Spence. Despite his £7 million valuation, Middlesbrough will not let Spence go that cheaply and are trying to hold out for a relatively bigger fee and demanding around £20 million.
Spence’s Preference to North London Move
The 21-year-old defender is personally ready to make the big move to a Premier League heavyweight like Tottenham Hotspur as well. Spence wants the move himself and is personally pushing for it to happen as well, improving Spurs’ chances of convincing Middlesbrough to get it done.
A London boy himself, Spence played for Fulham at the academy level and wants to play for a club close to home. The youngster should be a solid fit for Antonio Conte’s system because of his ability to play both as a right-back as well as a right-wing-back.

Spence is also an impressive crosser of the ball and has the qualities – both defensively and attacking – to be a solid fit for the current Spurs side. He will now hope the deal can get through quickly so that he can start his pre-season training with Spurs next month.
