According to Fabrizio Romano, Ajax star defender Jurriën Timber looks set to stay at the Eredivisie champions, with Ajax ready to offer the young Dutchman a new contract. The Dutch defender has not communicated any desire to leave Ajax, and the club have no intention of losing both Timber and Lisandro Martinez in the same transfer window.

Ajax are a team renowned for attacking talent, but the 2021-22 season saw the Dutch giants showcase their water-tight defence, with Timber being a vital cog in their backline which only conceded 19 goals in 34 games.
The youngster is mainly a centre-back and partner with Martinez, but Timber is also adept as a right-back. He made his senior Ajax debut in March 2020, but during the following 2020-21 season, he began to show his promise making 20 appearances.

During the last campaign, Timber had a superb season. He was influential in Ajax storming through their Champions League group in imperious fashion.
Despite being only 21 years old Timber has already earned eight caps for the Netherlands national team.
Why Timber Is a Wanted Man
Timber is very much a defender in the mould of the classic Dutch defenders like Ronald Koeman with his ball-carrying ability. He is also adept at handling the physical side of defending.
The young Dutchman is a solid defender, but his progressive passing and all-around ability on the ball impress most. Timber has flourished at Ajax because they press high and dominate possession, showcasing his reading of the game and passing ability.
Surprisingly, Timber is not pushing to join Erik ten Hag at Old Trafford. A move could happen in the future, but for now, it seems the young Dutchman will be staying at Ajax and continuing his development.
Although Ajax are disappointed with their Champions League exit to Benfica this season, keeping their young, promising defender will be vital for them to retain the Eredivisie, and improve in Europe next season.
