Arsenal have completed a transfer for 22-year-old Fabio Vieira, who has been described as “special” in the past, according to the ever-reliable Fabrizio Romano who gave his coveted “here we go” on the deal. The Portuguese youngster won the league with Porto last season, and his move to the Emirates has been something of a well-kept secret, quickly accelerating to its completion. With a release clause of €50 million, the €40 million that the Gunners will pay for him appears to be a slight bargain, and they now have quite the player on their hands.

Arsenal Look to Improve Their Squad as They Return to Europe
The Gunners missed out on qualification for European football for the first time in 25 years in the 2020/21 campaign. Mikel Arteta’s side finished in eighth place, a shocking position for a side of Arsenal’s stature, but perhaps not unexpected based on their recent form and results of the years leading up to it.
Perhaps it was playing fewer games, improvement of players, a stroke of managerial genius, or a combination of the three, but the 2021/22 season was much more successful for the North London side.

They finished fifth, narrowly missing out on Champions League qualification on the last day of the season. This does, though, mean that they will be playing in the Europa League next campaign, alongside Manchester United who just managed to come sixth.
Playing in Europe means extra matches for Arsenal, and as such they will need to improve their squad depth. Not only does this move do that, but it also adds real quality to their midfield.
Vieira scored seven goals and assisted 16 last season, an impressive record for a 22-year-old who still has plenty of time left at the top of the game to flourish for Arsenal.
