Will Erik ten Hag Be Leaving Ajax in the Near Future?

Erik ten Hag

Erik ten Hag has been at the helm of Ajax for some of their greatest moments in recent history. It was a Lucas Moura hat-trick that denied the Dutch side from reaching the Champions League final a few years back. Whilst they’ve continued to excel on a domestic front, they are once again on fire in Europe. This golden era may soon be coming to an end though, with Ten Hag set to move on according to reports from Mike Verweij.

Erik ten Hag Could Be Manchester United bound

Is Ten Hag on His Way Out of Ajax?

The situation regarding Marc Overmars is far from resolved at the time of writing. The Ajax and Arsenal legend has left the former after “a series of inappropriate messages [were] sent to several female colleagues.” This is set to have massive ramifications regarding Ten Hag because, as per what Verweij said on the TeleSport podcast, the duo are “one unit together.”

Ten Hag has led the Dutch giants to two Eredivisie titles as well as the aforementioned Champions League semi-final. There has been a lot of overhaul when it comes to the players. Whether it be Frenkie De Jong, Mathijs De Ligt, Lasse Schone or whoever else, most of the players that starred a few seasons back have now moved on to pastures new. Ten Hag arrived on the scene in 2017, but Overmars, on the other hand, was there five years prior. It is clear that they had a harmonious relationship and so the speculation is underway on the topic of the manager’s future.

Would the Dutchman Suit Manchester United?

Prior to this chatter over Ten Hag and his future, it was public knowledge that Man United were on the lookout for a manager with the summer fast approaching. Ralf Rangnick is the man in the hotseat currently – unless he does an exceptional job, he is expected to move into his preferred Director of Football role. Last time out, the Red Devils were knocked out of the FA Cup by Middlesbrough of the Championship and they are 19 points adrift of their Manchester rivals.

Ten Hag has been linked with the Man United job for a while now, and another man in the ringer is Mauricio Pochettino. The former Spurs and current PSG manager may well see his tenure in Paris come to an end in the summer, as is the case with Ten Hag. The Dutchman plays an exciting brand of football, which is a requirement of the Ajax system, something which would be welcomed to Old Trafford with open arms.

Ten Hag is going to be a man in demand if he does end up leaving Ajax. Whether it be with or without Overmars, he is certainly hot property in the footballing world.
