Sunderland have completed the signing of Fleetwood Town midfielder Jay Matete. Reports in the Sunderland Echo and the East Anglian Daily Times suggested that both Sunderland and Ipswich Town were chasing Matete. However, it also appeared that the Black Cats were winning the race and Sunderland have now confirmed the deal for the 20-year-old.

The Black Cats were struggling for numbers in midfield and will be delighted to have strengthened this area of the field. Despite not having a head coach, Sunderland have still managed to strengthen their squad with recruitment led by sporting director Kristjaan Speakman.
