£15 Million Wonderkid Joins Manchester City; Remains on Loan at River Plate Until End of Season

Julian Alvarez Joins Manchester City

Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano has confirmed the news that Julian Alvarez joins Manchester City from River Plate with the deal now all signed, sealed and delivered. Alvarez is now a Manchester City player but will remain on loan with River Plate until July when he will then make his move to the Premier League champions-elect.

Done Deal – Julian Alvarez Joins Manchester City

Agreement Confirmed

Alvarez has been a key target for Manchester City and Pep Guardiola in this January transfer window and now his search for a striker is at an end although he will have to wait to get the young Argentinian into his starting lineup until the 2022/23 Premier League season.

The deal is for €18.5 million which in today’s market is incredibly good value for money for such a young player tipped to star at the 2022 Qatar World Cup.

Lionel Messi

Alvarez has made no secret of his love for fellow Argentine Lionel Messi who he hopes to emulate, and playing in the Premier League is just one step on his journey to achieving that dream. Alvarez is also determined to earn a place in the Argentinian squad for the 2022 World Cup. Becoming South American player of the year has seriously enhanced his stock; playing in one of the world’s best football leagues can only further enhance his standing.

River Plate

River Plate had said that they would not stand in the player’s way should he choose to leave the club as long the release clause in his contract was met, which Manchester City have now done. The key feature of the transfer was that River Plate wanted the player to remain at the club until the end of the current season and with City firm favourites to win the league this season, they have agreed to that part of the deal meaning the contracts have been signed quickly to the happiness of all involved.
