Free-agent Diego Costa is reportedly garnering quite a bit of interest in his signature this January transfer window. Premier League clubs Arsenal and Newcastle United have been linked with the former Chelsea man but according to a tweet from Fabrizio Romano it could be Brazilian side Corinthians who land Costa. Romano’s Tweet hints that the deal could be close to completion:
“Corinthians are pushing to complete the signing of Diego Costa in the next hours. Verbal agreement now closer – still waiting for last details and final answer from Brazilian striker who’s now free agent”. Interestingly Romano also notes “No talks with Arsenal.”

Have the Goals Dried Up?
Most people will remember Diego Costa for his tenacity and goalscoring ability; whether he is remembered fondly or not depends on who you support. During his time with Chelsea, he netted over 50 goals in the Premier League. This came off the back of grabbing 64 goals in 135 appearances in his first stint with Atletico Madrid. Since his return to Atletico Madrid in 2017, he hasn’t hit double figures of goals in a single season, totalling just 19 in 81 games in his four seasons with the Spanish giants. A move to Atletico Miniero didn’t see him re-find his former glory either, as he scored 5 in 19 for the title-winning side.
On the surface, Diego Costa’s goalscoring numbers aren’t as eye-catching as they once were but he is still putting the ball in the net roughly once in every four games. For a Corinthians side that only managed to score 40 goals in 38 league games last season, the signing of a veteran striker like Diego Costa may help them find some goalscoring impetus. And if not, then his aggression on the field will no doubt spark them into life as any Chelsea fan will know all too well.
