Possible Option to Buy

According to transfers exit Fabrizio Romano, Mohamed Ihattaren is close to joining Ajax on loan with the possibility that there may be an option to buy the player at the end of the loan deal – which is said to be for 18 months.

Difficult Time for Ihattaren

The Netherlands player has had a rough time of it since he joined Serie A side Juventus in the summer of 2021.

Upon signing for Juve he was sent out on loan to Sampdoria for the current 2021/22 season but made not one appearance for the club.

Speaking to Dutch media outlet Telegraaf, the player spoke out about his nightmare time with Sampdoria.

He said: “At 19 years of age, I was sitting in a hotel room, alone, left to myself. I couldn’t take it anymore, all kinds of agreements were not respected by Sampdoria. It was as if I don’t exist.

“Nothing was organised, no bank account nor insurance. I didn’t get a salary, so I called the team manager and he said ‘we pay every two months’. It did not happen and all of this started to irritate me. I didn’t play, there were no prospects and I called Raiola who told me to stay calm.”

Sampdoria were not happy with the claims but for the player it had the desired effect as he returned to parent club Juventus ahead of looking for another, more positive loan move in the January transfer window with Juventus themselves trying to help him get a club that will nurture him and give him game time.

Positive Talks

Ihattaren is now said to have held positive talks with Ajax director of football, Marc Overmars and it looks like this will be his next destination for the next 18 months and if he performs well, maybe for his longer-term future.
