According to Jason Burt of The Telegraph, Paris Saint-Germain are looking to extend Kylian Mbappe as the superstar’s contract currently expires this summer. The forward is one of the biggest names in football and is heavily linked to Real Madrid, and could make the move unless PSG can tempt the Frenchman to stay.
As per Burt, Real Madrid are confident of securing the forward on a free this summer.
Kylian Mbappe in Talks to Sign New Contract at Paris Saint-Germain
23-Year-Old Open to Signing Short-Term Contract Extension
Kylian Mbappe is reportedly currently discussing a potential contract extension with PSG. The deal is thought to only be a short-term extension. PSG are still fighting to keep Mbappe. Last summer Real Madrid submitted a €160 million big that PSG rejected. The valuation of Mbappe stands at €210 million, however, with his contract trickling down, time is now crucial. There is a chance that if this deal does not go ahead, they will lose Mbappe to Real Madrid for free.
The 23-year-old has bagged 18 goals in 26 appearances this term and is also currently the second most expensive player of all time. The youngster signed for PSG for €180 million only to be eclipsed by current teammate Neymar who cost €222 million. So, as such an expensive asset, and one that is also integral to the team’s success, can PSG afford to let him slip away for free?
The Battle for Mbappe Between Real Madrid and PSG
Despite the recent transfer interest, Real Madrid seem content to wait out the contract situation.
As reported by the Daily Mail, Manager Carlo Ancelotti said this on the topic: “It’s an interesting moment because we’re back in La Liga, we have the Copa del Rey on Wednesday. It’s an important moment. [Moving for Mbappe is] the last thing to do, which I think is what will happen on June 30.”
Adding to the drama PSG face Real in the last-16 of the Champions League. The clubs are two juggernauts, both financially and in a footballing sense. The jostle for the newest talent is a constant game between the biggest clubs in the world. And this transfer saga is no different and has been bubbling away for some while now. PSG’s sporting director Leonardo constantly adds fuel to the fire by airing details of the transfer to the public. As reported by the Times, Leonardo said that the French international had “always promised that he would never leave for free.”
However, even if he does sign a new deal, Real Madrid will not easily give up in their pursuit of the World Cup winner.
