Talks for Arthur Melo Switch to Arsenal Ongoing

Talks for Arthur Melo

Talks for Arthur Melo to join Arsenal from Juventus are ongoing, according to Fabrizio Romano, with the North London club offering a loan deal initially. An obligation to buy clause is not believed to be part of current negotiations. Juventus are holding out as they want a replacement before any agreement is made.

Arsenal Talks For Arthur Melo Continue

Arsenal Willing to Pay Full Wages in Loan Deal

Juventus have reportedly been told by Arsenal that they would be willing to pay his full wages to secure a loan deal for the midfielder. With players away at the Africa Cup of Nations as well as Ainsley Maitland-Niles’ loan move to Roma it has left Mikel Arteta with diminishing numbers in his ranks and he hasn’t been helped with the red card picked up by Granit Xhaka in the Carabao Cup semi-final first leg match at Anfield on January 13, 2022.

Initial Talks

According to Romano, Arsenal are willing to cover Arthur Melo’s salary in full and this could well be the detail that helps The Gunners bring the Brazilian midfielder to the Emirates Stadium in the January transfer window. The deal is however moving slowly at present because Juventus want to make sure they have a replacement ready before granting the 25-year-old permission to head to the Premier League side on loan.

Talks are still needed to take place with Juventus boss Massimiliano Allegri before the deal gets the green light but Allegri has used Arthur sparingly in Serie A this season and has only played him in seven of the last 15 league matches.

Arthur most recently featured for Juventus from the bench on January 12 against Inter Milan in the Supercoppa Italiana where Juventus were second best and defeated via an extra-time winner from former Arsenal forward Alexis Sanchez.
