Red Devils Need Reinforcements

The Manchester United players were heavily criticized by pundits & fans following reports that up to 17 players were ‘unhappy’ at the club. The players have seemingly been uninspired by Ralf Rangnick’s arrival, and are yet to put a completely convincing performance since his arrival. Manchester United have been in poor form with only one Premier League win since the 11 December, a 1-0 success at Norwich City. In an interview with Sky Sports, Cristiano Ronaldo urged fans to give Rangnick time to implement his ideas into the team. Rangnick is expected to bring intensity, passion and effort to this team, however this is yet to be seen.

It is clear that Rangnick is trying to implement a quick fix to save Manchester United’s season. The Red Devils were previously linked to Denis Zakaria, whose contract ends this summer. A deal for the Swiss-international is expected to be around £6 million, however his employers Borussia Monchengladbach have said that no bid has been submitted, according to MEN. Zakaria would bring much needed defensive cover to the team, who currently rely on Matic, McTominay, or Fred.

Manchester United are also believed to be interested in Brighton right-back Tariq Lamptey, who will cost up to £50 million according toThe Guardian. The German-coach is yet to be convinced by Aaron Wan-Bissaka, who has recently spent most games on the bench. His replacement, Diogo Dalot, has been instrumental in Rangnick’s attacking-minded formation.

Manchester United Target Ousmane Dembele Again

Ousmane Dembele has been linked to a variety of clubs in the past, including Newcastle United. The French winger was reportedly keen on staying at Barcelona however his demands were too high for the Catalonian club. The club is in financial disarray and has been forced to make heavy sacrifices in order to help their situation. This includes selling players, pay-cuts, and even releasing personnel. Dembele’s demands of €40 million per year are too high for Barcelona to consider.

Manchester United could sign the 24 year-old on a pre contract depending on Pogba’s potential departure. The Guardian reported that the player’s wages could only be met once United clear their wage bill. Paul Pogba, whose contract ends in less than six months, is allowed to negotiate a pre-contract with any other club outside of England. Paris Saint-Germain have showed interest in the midfielder, however no approach has been made yet.

A potential replacement for the Frenchman would be Fabian Ruiz, whose contract expires in June 2022 as well. The Napoli midfielder is yet to commit to the club amid interest from elsewhere.

Van de Beek’s situation is still unclear; the midfielder has been at Manchester United for 18 months, however is reportedly unhappy at his lack of game time.  ”No decision made yet by Manchester United on his potential loan elsewhere, nothing communicated to player/agent. Ralf Rangnick still wants Donny to stay until the end of the season”, according to Fabrizio Romano.

Another player that could be departing is Eric Bailly, who could be set for a loan move to AC Milan. The Italian club is reportedly looking for a new centre-back following Simon Kjaer’s season-ending injury. The Ivorian defender is struggling to find a consistent place in the Manchester United team, therefore a loan may be of interest to the player and the clubs.

Manchester United have already loaned Axel Tuanzebe to Napoli until the end of the season, with the English defender looking for game time and elite experience. Manchester United could be set for huge clear out at the end of this season, with six players being out of contract. These include Paul Pogba, Juan Mata, Edinson Cavani, and Jesse Lingard; four players that are on surmountable wages for players with very limited game time.
