Top of the Premier League and through to the knockout stages of the Champions League, Chelsea are flying high at the moment. Their results and play since returning from the international break has been nothing short of stellar and Thomas Tuchel’s side are looking unstoppable.
Undefeated since September 29, the club are currently leading the way in the Premier League and their Champions League group. What exactly is it about the Chelsea quality of play in these last two games that’s stood out? Well, let’s break that down.
Chelsea Quality On Full Display Since International Break
Leicester City
Despite currently sitting 12th in the Premier League, Leicester City are a good team home to some very talented footballers. On November 20, Chelsea all but played this team off the pitch in every way possible. Despite Romelu Lukaku and Timo Werner still not being fit, Chelsea put three goals past Kasper Schmeichel and dominated possession, finishing with 62 per cent.
The Foxes had no answer to Tuchel’s side, even in attack where they only managed to take three shots on target in the entire game despite boasting Jamie Vardy, who already has seven goals to his name this season. It was clear in this game that Tuchel’s tactics were working as Chelsea nullified and picked apart their opposition. This game was just a taster of what Chelsea could do, however.
Juventus
Juventus‘ 1-0 win against Tuchel’s men in September marks the last time this Chelsea side suffered a defeat. Chelsea were no doubt expecting a tough game despite Juventus’ recent shaky form in the Serie A. Instead, Chelsea romped to a 4-0 win spurred on by their squad depth and academy graduates.
Similar to the Leicester game, ther Blues were unstoppable on all fronts. Juventus only managed two shots on target in the entire game compared to Chelsea’s right – four of which led to goals. Chelsea’s 21 shots and 13 corners show just how much of the game went their way as they were relentless in attack and never gave Juventus room to get a foothold in the game.
After two season-defining performances, Chelsea will go into their busy winter period brimming with confidence as Thomas Tuchel has them playing some of their best football in a long time.
