Harry Kane’s England hat-trick against Albania was perfect. A lovely header. A tight-angled left-footed finish. And then that fantastic acrobatic effort to complete yet another England hat-trick. Many fans had somehow started to write off the dejected Tottenham Hotspur talisman. But it is clear that he is willing and able to bang in the goals for club and country.

Kane ‘Off Form’ This Season
Apparently, Kane isn’t having a very good season. But he’s just scored his second hat-trick for club and country. His first was a 20-minute demolition job against NS Mura in the Europa Conference League. Yet despite scoring the goals in Europe and for England, Kane only has just one Premier League goal this season.
But this second hat-trick has again prompted pundits and the rest of the media to praise Kane for picking up some form. They were all worried on behalf of the Spurs striker who seemingly was ‘out of form’.
Spurs fans will know, however, that Kane often goes through these ‘dry spells’ (where he stills knocks in a fair few goals). Whether these spells stem from injury, fatigue or burnout, Kane does eventually recover year on year. The Tottenham forward has hit at least 15 league goals each season since 2013/4.
This season has been another case of burnout. Kane had a busy summer at the Euros, where he stepped up in the latter half of the competition to provide vital goals. And despite England’s dogged and determined performance, they could not best Italy in the final, played out on home turf.
The Tottenham and England captain admitted that this really did take its toll. He said: “A lot people talk about physically, what tournaments take out of you and pre-seasons and going straight back into a season, but mentally, as players, you go through a lot as well,”
Kane continued: “You go through the highs and lows of a major tournament, coming so close to a dream and it being taken away from you in such a quick moment, and then it was my first summer of transfer speculation, having to deal with those situations. So, of course, it takes a toll mentally.”
Manchester City Transfer Saga
There, Kane said it. The transfer saga was yet another long-winded affair that saw Spurs fans prepared to wave Kane off to cash in on a player who seemed happy to jump ship. But, like many of these sagas, nothing happened in the end. No doubt the rumours will resurface in January, and in the summer. With the arrival of Antonio Conte, Kane’s prospects at Spurs have brightened. Could it be enough to keep him at the club? For now, the player is contracted to Tottenham until 2024. At that point, he’ll be 32 years old, or in football terms ‘getting on a bit’. Kane has never been blessed with pace, though and if he can keep fit without too many serious injuries he does seem to be a player who could push on until his late thirties.
Things are looking up again at Spurs. There’s a new clear objective with Conte coming to town. Like Mourinho, Conte is a world-class manager who naturally brings with him a degree of belief. The belief that Spurs can actually stop bottling major finals and start reaping the success they’ve worked so hard to achieve. Perhaps Harry Kane’s England hat-trick is just another sign of just how much talent Tottenham have at their disposal and a warning that Kane and Spurs are willing to mount another campaign across the Premier League and Europe.
