In a weekend already littered with countless headlines, the Premier League looks set to be filled with drama once more. Easily the biggest game of the weekend, Manchester United against Liverpool, is the one most are looking forward to. Premier League Predictions Matchday Nine: Part Two
Southampton Host Burnley
In a game which could quite easily go either way, Southampton host Burnley hoping to make it back-to-back wins in the league, having beaten Leeds United 1-0 last time out. With Armando Broja off and running in the league now, too, Ralph Hasenhuttl will be expecting all three points.
Meanwhile, Burnley, for the first time in a long time, look dangerously destined for the drop. Sean Dyche will be hoping to see his side claw their way to some much-needed victories, having gone eight games without a win. When looking at the teams around them, from the now-rich Newcastle, to a Leeds side more than capable of staying up, Burnley look in serious trouble, however.
Southampton 1-1 Burnley
Brighton Take on Manchester City
Brighton v Manchester City is an intriguing game. As bizarre as it sounds, it presents a game between two sides with similar styles, in some aspects. If you cast your minds back to last season, too, Graham Potter’s side actually defeated eventual Premier League champions Manchester City, 3-2. If that game is anything to go by, we could be in for plenty of drama.
Pep Guardiola will know the challenge ahead, but will also be as expectant as ever for three points. If results go Manchester City’s way this weekend, they could find themselves top of the tree heading into matchday 10.
There is every chance that Brighton could shock City, but, on this occasion, the champions should secure all three points.
Brighton 0-2 Manchester City
Brentford Host Revitalised Leicester City
It wasn’t many weeks ago that the alarm bells were ringing at Leicester City, as they drew 2-2 with Burnley. A 4-2 victory over Manchester United, and a four-goal showing from Patson Daka in a 4-3 win against Spartak Moscow later, however, and the Foxes seem revitalised.
A trip to Brentford acts as a serious banana skin, as Arsenal and Liverpool have already found out, but Brendan Rodgers’ side should continue their return to form. It will certainly be a game full of excitement, but, ultimately, one Brentford may end on the losing side.
Brentford 2-3 Leicester City
West Ham United Host Tottenham Hotspur in London Derby
West Ham United and Tottenham Hotspur seem to be on the verge of swapping places. Whilst Tottenham take one step forward and two steps back, West Ham just keep marching on. Whether it be in the Europa League, in which they have won all three group games without conceding, or the Premier League, where they sit 7th and one point behind Tottenham, the Hammers seem to go from strength to strength.
Tottenham’s 1-0 loss to Vitesse Arnhem in the Europa Conference League summed their season so far up. It was blunt, unpromising, and lack any form of desire and energy. Nuno Espírito Santo’s side simply cannot afford to put in a subpar performance in the forthcoming London Derby. The last time they failed to show up in such a game, was against Arsenal, when they lost 3-1.
West Ham United 2-0 Tottenham Hotspur
Premier League Predictions: Liverpool Take on Vulnerable Manchester United
A trip to Old Trafford is rarely filled with promise for Liverpool. But, on this occasion, they have an opportunity to secure a resounding victory. Manchester United have looked more vulnerable than ever before under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer in recent weeks, and the comeback 3-2 win over Atalanta in mid-week simply just papered over the growing cracks.
Liverpool must not let such an opportunity pass them by; they must prove a point at Old Trafford, and potentially seal Solskjaer’s fate. It won’t be an easy game by any stretch of the imagination – it never is at Old Trafford – but it is one Liverpool are expected to win.
With the form that Mohamed Salah is, the Reds may be unstoppable this Sunday.
