Oud-Heverlee Leuven Set to Sign Alex Runarsson on Loan From Arsenal

Alex Runarsson

As per Mike McGrath of the Telegraph, cited by David Ornstein of The Athletic, Arsenal goalkeeper Alex Runarsson is set to join Belgian side Oud-Heverlee on a season-long loan. The news follows the recent arrival of Aaron Ramsdale, who will take the backup position behind Bernd Leno.

The expected move doesn’t come as a surprise. When given the chance in an Arsenal shirt, Runarsson didn’t exactly impress, leaving his future instantly up for debate. A move was always on the cards, and Ramsdale’s arrival has only edged the goalkeeper closer to the exit door.

Arsenal Continue Late Clear-Out

With Hector Bellerin already out of the exit door, pending an official announcement from Real Betis, Arsenal will look to say goodbye to more deadwood before the transfer window slams shut later tonight. As for incomings, the Gunners have agreed a deal to sign former Tottenham Hotspur target Takehiro Tomiyasu from Bologna. The versatile defender should only improve Mikel Arteta’s current backline.

The biggest spenders in the Premier League so far this summer, Arteta and Arsenal will be desperately hoping to see some improvement on the pitch. So far, they’ve lost three out of three games, including an opening day defeat against newly-promoted Brentford.

If Arteta fails to secure all three points after the international break against Norwich City, then his job will undoubtedly be at risk. The Spaniard has been backed this summer, that is a fact, and must use that backing to take the Gunners back into the European places.

Alex Runarsson’s exit could help towards any remaining incomings at the Emirates, but only time will tell. Either way, it looks set to get busier and busier regarding Arsenal transfer news before today’s deadline, with outgoings and incomings set to occur.
