AC Milan Not Interested in James Rodriguez

James Rodriguez

AC Milan are no longer interested in acquiring James Rodriguez from Everton, as ESPN claims according to sources at the club. Milan have long been rumoured to be in the hunt for another creative attacking midfielder/winger, and it seemed as if Rodriguez fit the bill. The Colombian is both very experienced and talented, but Milan decided to look elsewhere.

Brahim Diaz is shining for Milan right now. He scored the winning goal in the Rossoneri‘s first match against Sampdoria and played very well in their 4-1 victory over Cagliari.

Milan are moving forward with Diaz as their primary attacking midfielder. On the wings, the team has Rafael Leao, Ante Rebic and Alexis Saelemaekers.

Leao, as a matter of fact, is also in great form right now. He was a threat all match long against Sampdoria and earned a goal versus Cagliari. Typically, though, of as a substitute, Leao is playing his way into a starting position.

Rebic also has starting quality and experience. Perhaps Milan will move him to the right-wing if they choose to move forward with Leao on the left wing. Saelemaekers starts at right-wing and is solid, but he is not a star by any means yet.

Another reason for moving on from Rodriguez is the approach for Junior Messias. According to Gianluca di Marzio, Milan are making a move for the player right now.

Messias plays as both a second-striker and right-winger. Last season he scored nine goals and provided four assists for Crotone in Serie A. His name, however, doesn’t carry the star power that the name of  Rodriguez does.

From an outside point of view, it’s likely that Messias is a cheaper option, especially wage wise. Milan have been shrewd with their cash this summer, and Messias is likely part of this low-cost approach.
