Moussa Sissoko Joins Watford as Will Hughes Replacement

Moussa Sissoko

Moussa Sissoko has completed his move from Tottenham Hotspur to Watford for £5 million, and will be on a two-year contract. The newly-promoted Premier League side are set to lose central midfielder Will Hughes to Crystal Palace for £6 million, and so have lined up Sissoko as his replacement.

Surplus to Requirements at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium

Under Mauricio Pochettino, Sissoko was able to become a mainstay in the Tottenham side.

The Frenchman joined Spurs from Newcastle United in 2016 for a then club-record fee of £30 million but struggled to make an immediate impact.

He was, however, eventually able to become a key player in Pochettino’s team, being vital in the North London side’s run to the 2019 Champions League final.

Since the appointment of Jose Mourinho, though, Sissoko has been unable to cement a regular place in the Tottenham starting team.

With promising 20-year-old midfielder Oliver Skipp returning from a loan with Norwich, the 32-year-old was informed at the start of the summer that he was surplus to requirements and could leave the club, even after Mourinho’s departure.

Signs Look Encouraging For Spurs

The opening two weeks of the Premier League season have certainly been encouraging from Tottenham’s point of view.

On the opening weekend, they proved that they didn’t need star player Harry Kane, who at the time was being heavily linked with a move to Manchester City. Spurs started their campaign with a bang, beating the reigning champions, City, 1-0.

Since then, the good news has kept on rolling for Nuno Espirito Santo’s team.

Last weekend, he secured his second victory as Tottenham boss, emerging victorious over his former side, Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Then, on Wednesday, the best news possible was announced: Kane would stay.

The striker announced on social media that he would remain with Spurs beyond the summer transfer window.

Earlier today, the club also announced that they had completed the signing of Pape Matar Sarr, providing yet another boost in a positive couple of weeks for the London side.
