Lee Carsley Names First England U21 Squad of His Tenure

England U21 boss Lee Carsley has named the first squad of his tenure for his side’s UEFA U21 Euro qualifying matches.

The Young Lions will kick off their campaign with matches against Kosovo and Romania. The former will be played in Milton Keynes while the latter will see the side travel to Bucharest, who are the joint hosts of the final tournament in 2023, along with Georgia.

U21 Experience

Whenever a new manager takes charge, there are bound to be changes to the squad. While this has remained true with Carsley’s appointment, there are still some familiar faces in the team that will provide good experience to the squad.

The likes of Joe Bursik, Max Aarons, Marc Guehi and Ryan Sessegnon have all featured regularly for clubs in both the Premier League and EFL. Meanwhile, there are also new additions, such as goalkeeper Etienne Green.

Carsley and his assistant, former England defender Ashley Cole, will meet up with the squad next week before the trip to Bucharest on September 3. They will then return to England for the match against Kosovo at Stadium MK on September 7, which will be live on Sky Sports.
