Goalkeeper Joe Hart could leave Tottenham Hotspur this summer, according to Alasdair Gold. The former England international joined the club last summer and served as backup to Hugo Lloris. He made just ten appearances all season and did not play a single minute of Premier League football.
Joe Hart May Leave Spurs
Uncertainty for Joe Hart Again
It has been a difficult time for Joe Hart since Pep Guardiola arrived at Manchester City. At the time, he was England’s undisputed number one. Guardiola, however, wanted a goalkeeper who’s more comfortable with the ball at his feet. The arrival of Claudio Bravo from Barcelona meant Hart’s ten-year spell as a Manchester City player was coming to an end.
He joined Torino on loan in 2016/17, playing 36 times. He then joined West Ham United on loan the following season but made just 19 league starts. Burnley was his next destination, but once again, he only made 19 appearances.
After losing out on Burnley’s number one spot to Nick Pope, Hart left the club in 2020 and joined Spurs. The North Londoners already had a backup goalkeeper in Paulo Gazzaniga, but Jose Mourinho preferred Hart as his number two. Despite that, there was no Premier League football forthcoming. He played eight times in the Europa League before Spurs were unceremoniously dumped out by Dinamo Zagreb.
Goalkeeper Upheaval at Spurs
Tottenham are looking for a long-term successor to Hugo Lloris. The 34-year-old Frenchman is expected to remain the number one in the short term, but Tottenham want a young goalkeeper to challenge him and eventually take his place. They have targeted Atalanta’s Pierluigi Gollini, and are set to sign the 26-year old. At 34, Hart is past his prime and is not a long-term option. Gollini is a fine young stopper who is in his prime and can challenge Lloris.
If Hart stays for the final year of his deal, he will likely have to compete with young Alfie Whiteman for the third goalkeeper’s slot. He will be allowed to leave, although there is no certainty about his destination. He is definitely not in Nuno Espirito Santo’s plans and has been told the same.
