Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson Becker is set to sign a new contract at the club until 2026, according to Fabrizio Romano, as the Reds look to tie key players down for the future. The Brazilian is one of the most important players in Jurgen Klopp’s squad. Without him, they often struggle to replicate their usual calm and composed form of playing.
Ever since joining the club, the former Roma man has been one of the best goalkeepers in the world, winning the Golden Glove in the Premier League, Copa America and the Champions League all in one season.
The news of the contract will delight Liverpool fans as they prepare for the new Premier League season come August, where they’ll look to secure their second title in three years.
Alisson Becker Contract Set for Renewal
Vital for Jurgen Klopp’s Side
Whilst business is quiet in regards to incomings, contract news at Liverpool has been picking up in recent months. The focus is clearly on securing what they’ve already got rather than bringing further talent in.
It’s not the most exciting summer, that’s unquestionable, but it looks set to be an important one for the Reds. Last season would have been a disappointing one for much of the campaign before a third placed finish signalled relief.
Despite the short-term solution Nat Phillips and Rhys Williams offered at the back, Alisson will be delighted to see Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez back in front of him plus the added option of Ibrahima Konate. All of a sudden, Liverpool have gone from midfielders at the back to four world-class central defenders.
If you cast your minds back to the 19/20 title winning season, it was their defensive stability which helped them the most towards eventual glory.
Jurgen Klopp will be desperate to replicate the form which saw them dominate the Premier League. Should they manage to complete that task, they should be a force to be reckoned with once again.
